§ 1062.01. Definitions.

Latest version.
  • As used in this chapter:

Alarm system means any mechanical or electrical device which is designed or used for the detection of an unauthorized entry into a building, structure or facility, for alerting others of the commission of an unlawful act within a building, structure or facility, or both, or for the detection of fire, which device emits a sound or transmits a signal or message when actuated. "Alarm system" includes, but is not limited to, audible or local enunciator devices, automatic dialing devices, central station reporting devices and direct police station reporting devices. Devices which are not designed or used to register alarms that are audible, visible or perceptible outside of the protected building, structure or facility are not included in this definition.

Audible or local enunciator device means any alarm system which is connected to an on-site audible alarm or enunciator that will emit an audible signal when activated.

Automatic dialing device means any alarm system which, at the point of origin or at any other location, has a device that will "direct dial" a telephone number or numbers to report an alarm.

Central station reporting device means any alarm system that, when activated, reports directly to a central station which is staffed by people who will make contact with designated parties.

Direct police station reporting device means any alarm system which, upon activation, reports directly to the local police station.

Excessive amount of alarms means five false alarms in a 12-month period.

False alarm means an alarm signal necessitating a response by the police department or the fire department when there is no physical sign that an emergency existed. However, an alarm is not false if the owner thereof, after such alarm has emitted a signal, notifies the police department or the fire department, as the case may be, that the signal was accidental, and if such notification occurs prior to the dispatching of police or fire officers to the location of the alarm.

Senior citizen means a resident that has reached the minimum age of 65 at the time of the application submittal.
